Wedding & Party Decorations

If you are looking for interesting items for decorations to be used in weddings or gift ideas you can make by yourself, soy candles would be an interesting option for you to choose. When making these do-it-yourself projects a main aspect to focus on is the fragrance you select. Make sure you bear in mind the season in Melbourne you target and select an appropriate fragrance. For instance the scent of raspberry is most suitable for summertime.

How To Make Mason Jar Candles

This is a very simple project which even a beginner can easily carry out. But with a few customizations you will be able to make them into a beautiful and creative gift idea or even scale up quantities to make it part of the decorations for outdoor or indoor weddings. All you would need are some items like soy candles readily available in many candles stores in Melbourne.

Ingredients required (quantities are mentioned for 6 x 100g soy candle jars):

  • 600 g soy wax
  • 6 waxed wicks
  • Essential oils of choice for scenting purpose
  • Heat proof mason jars
  • A boiler
  • Hot glue gun
  • Thermometer
  • Optional - wax dye or crayons for coloring

Firstly start by gluing the wick to the bottom of the container. Simultaneously heat wax in the boiler until completely melted. If you wish to add color, drop the pieces of crayons or add candle wax and stir well. This step is optional if you wish to go with natural colored candles. Once a temperature of about 140 oF if reached add the fragrance of choice (it is recommended to use about 5ml per 1lb of wax. Continue to stir. Once cooled to about 110 oF, pour into the prepped mason jars and allow to cool slowly. Once hardened, trim wicks to about ¼” above the wax. Allow candles to cure for about 48 hours before burning.

Other Simple Do-It-Yourself Ideas

Using the above technique there are other designs of personalised soy candles you can make. These include soy candle tins, floating candles, tea cup candles, ice candles, and cocktail glass candles and so on. These would make excellent decorations, gifts for friends and family, or even memorabilia for guests to take away with them. You could also enjoy them for personal use. If you want to add an even more personal touch, include some other craft ideas to your candle. You may paint the container, add decorative labels and notes, all using some simple items like ribbons, bows, colored paper or recycled material.
